Glitter is notorious for getting everywhere - touch one sparkly card or item and you will be finding flecks of the stuff in your food, hair, and carpet for months.

Most glitter products are made from plastic, which leads to the growing problem of microplastic in the environment.

Microplastics are consumed by plankton, fish, birds, and have a serious detrimental impact. As a result, animals often die because of the build-up in their systems.

While it is easy to just wash glitter from your hands, it is a huge problem for marine life. Animals die from starvation when building up in their systems, and the material can even make its way up the food chain to end up on our plates.

A recent study, published in the journal Geochemical Perspectives, found that microplastics have even reached the deepest point of the ocean, in the western Pacific Ocean's Mariana Trench.

So, if you are looking to add some glitter to your Halloween costume or Christmas card, consider EcoStardust - one of many companies trending on Instagram for good reasons.

EcoStardust was launched in 2017 with an objective to provide glitter made from plant cellulose, derived predominantly from non-GMO suitability farmed Eucalyptus Trees. The best part, they have a specific collection of glitter for Halloween!

EcoStardust's mission

EcoStardust's mission is to help promote joy and spread happiness through their vibrant and high-quality glitter products, whilst raising awareness of environmental issues and giving back to the world. They make it their objective to limit the impact on the environment in everything they do, not just in the final product that we see on the shelves.

They also attend local beach cleans, do impromptu litter picking when they go for walks, visit waste disposal sites to gain more information to learn more in their free time, and build EcoBricks with any plastic waste which they may have in their office.
